______ Took Less Time Than The NCAA’s Investigation Into Miami (Fill in the Blank)

Exactly two years ago today (August 16, 2011), “investigative reporter,” Charles Robinson wrote his now infamous article story titled “Renegade Miami Football Booster Spells Out Illicit Benefits to Players.”  Nearly one year before this “Pulitzer-worthy” story was published, convicted Ponzi schemer, (name withheld intentionally), threatened to write aWe're waiting tell-all book that would tear the University of Miami to the ground.  Exactly nine weeks ago today, the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions concluded its hearing on the case.  Since that time, Miami has heard – Nothing.  (chirp chirp)

Regarding this 2+ year timeline – by comparison, the following investigations took equal or less time.

  • Nuremberg trials – Trials for Nazi war criminals were advocated for and completed in 1½ years.
  • Watergate – Nixon resigned in August 1974, just two years after the June 17, 1972 break-in.
  • Clinton Impeachment – The Drudge Report first broke news of the Lewinsky scandal on January 17, 1998.  Clinton was impeached on December 19, 1998 and acquitted by the Senate on February 12, 1999.
  • Final Report of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (9/11 Commission Report) – Took 20 months (November 27, 2002- July 22, 2004) to complete.

Back to the NCAA’s investigation into Miami – To quote the judge from Caddyshack: “Well … we’re waiting.”

Also of note, it took 26 months to build the hull of the Titanic.  If the NCAA takes much longer, it may go down with the ship…
